Drawing larger crowds than P.T. Barnum, Harry Houdini, or Teddy Roosevelt, evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson brought a unique blend of charisma, humor, and theatrics to a ministry that would later be rocked by scandal. In the early decades of the twentieth century, her meetings—featuring tent revivals, healings, and speaking in tongues—mesmerized the masses and helped propel the fledgling Pentecostal movement. Airing on PBS’s AMERICAN EXPERIENCE series, Sister Aimee tells the story of McPherson’s rise and fall.  It opens with her first revival experience, re-created with the help of costume and design genius  Rafael Jaen of Emerson College.  Original broadcast: April 2, 2007
